Endemol Shine restructures exec team with five promotions

Endemol Shine has restructured its executive management team with five role changes, including promoting the executive producer of Masterchef Australia, Marty Benson, to director of content, Melbourne.

Executive producer Amelia Fisk will fill the director of content role in the Sydney market, while commercial director Scott Howard has been elevated to chief operating officer, and director of production Jane Macaulay is now director of production and post production.

Finally, director of development and creative services Elliot Spencer’s new position is creative director. This is a newly-created position.

The shake up follows Banijay’s acquisition of the business mid last year from The Walt Disney Company, which means both Endemol and Screentime – the two biggest production companies in the country – now have the same owner.

Endemol Shine Australia co-CEOs Mark and Carl Fennessy departed the business as a result of the sale after leading the company for 10 years, with chief content officer Peter Newman taking over as CEO.

Business partners for 26-years after founding indie producer Crackerjack, the Fennessys said they were looking forward to taking a long break post the sale. Mark Fennessy is understood to be collaborating with Richard Lowenstein’s Ghost Pictures on a feature documentary on AFL star Dustin Martin and a miniseries based on Billy Thorpe’s first book Sex & Thugs & Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Each of the new executives appointments will report to CEO Peter Newman, who said: “These are richly-deserved promotions and I am deeply proud of the incredible executive management team we have at ESA.

“This restructure ensures our business is well positioned for continued growth while enhancing our ability to deliver world class content to our broadcast partners.”

Last year, Megan Rees joined the company as chief finance office having spent 10 years at ITV in a variety of senior finance positions across the UK, North America and Australia, most recently as the finance director of ITV Studios Australia.

Endemol Shine Australia’s program slate includes Australian free-to-air and pay TV content such as Australian Survivor, Big Brother, Gogglebox Australia, Lego Masters, MasterChef Australia, Australian Married at First Sight and Ninja Warrior.
