Want to submit for SXSW Sydney 2024? Here’s some tips

Submissions for the 2024 SXSW Sydney conference are open now. Head of programming, Fenella Kernebone, shares some tips on the best way to submit before it closes on March 28 at 5pm.

In our inaugural year, we received an outstanding number of submissions. In fact, it felt like they doubled overnight close to the deadline.

This year, with our additional conference streams (23 tracks), it’s going to be thrilling to see the ideas that emerge, with leading speakers and thought leaders across the creative industries.

As you prepare or encourage your teams to enter Session Select, or put forward a conference submission, here are some tips to help with the application to achieve success.

To find out more, register for our upcoming webinar on the 12th of March at 11am. Until then, here’s some advice on how best to approach your submission.

  1. Read through the track descriptions and decide which conference stream best suits your submission proposal. If unsure, choose the track or topics that most closely aligns. If you are successful, the conference team will work with you to make any adjustments.
  2. Read and download through our ‘Conference Submission Guidelines’.
  3. Read and download our ‘Supporting Details’ document to help you work on your submissions offline.
  4. If you are considering submitting multiple proposals from one organisation and they are all reasonably similar topic wise, then you will be competing with yourself. Consider submitting one brilliant proposal only.
  5. The more specific a proposal the better. We are looking for focused, detailed submissions with a clear title and synopsis, as well as information about your confirmed speakers. Why are they the right speaker or speakers for this session? What questions are you asking? What problems are you addressing? Who is the audience for this session? Don’t forget to confirm your speakers are available and can attend.
  6. Diversity on panels is extremely important. Please read the guidelines and remember if you are submitting a panel, only four (4) speakers on stage. This includes the moderator.
  7. A supporting video or pitch is more than welcome if it outlines your proposal. Please keep this under 2 minutes. Outline the session idea, who the speakers are, and why this session should be in the conference.
  8. Your title can be catchy, but it should also act as a short description of your session. Ideally no longer than 25 words. (Please note that we require you to fill out your submissions title twice, please keep these identical)
  9. Please DO NOT USE ALL CAPS or all lower case in your submission title!
  10. Check your spelling and links for typos and grammar before you submit. You cannot make any amendments after you have submitted.
  11. Do not forget to include a photo on your submission page.

And finally, please remember that sessions cannot be a promotion for your company, product or service, if you would like to discuss partnerships options, please get in touch with the partnerships team – partner programming, activations or the expo.

See you at SXSW Sydney 2024…
