Entries now open for the South Australian Screen Awards

Entries are now open for the South Australian Screen Awards.

The announcement:

The Media Resource Centre, South Australia’s centre for screen culture development, invites South Australian filmmakers to submit entries for the 2014 South Australian Screen Awards, SA’s highest film accolade. The winners will be announced at a special gala event in May 2014.

Now in its 15th year, the South Australian Screen Awards (SASAs) exhibit, celebrate, support and promote South Australian talent through the presentation of 20 awards encompassing short film, online media, feature film and emerging local talent.

The awards recognise excellence and innovation across the genre and craft categories including best drama, documentary, animation, cinematography, production design, web series and more. Prizes are in the form of cash, equipment, hire and gift packages.

Media Resource Centre CEO Gail Kovatseff said “The SASAs are an exceptional opportunity for South Australian filmmakers and talent to be recognised for their incredible skills and contribution they make to the screen industry. There are so many hidden gems produced in this state and these awards allow those films to be recognised.’

The SASAs are the annual highlight for the South Australian screen industry and have enjoyed strong growth in both the number and quality of entries over recent years, as well as growing attendances from the film industry’s brightest and best at the awards’ annual gala and screening program that runs for the week following the event. The screening program showcases all nominated films and filmmakers across both the craft and genre categories.

With the phenomenal amount of recognition South Australian filmmakers are currently receiving in festivals around Australia and internationally, it is anticipated that the standard of entries will again be very competitive.

Guidelines and entry forms for the 2014 SASA awards are available on the Media Resource Centre’s website at www.mrc.org.au. The regular deadline for entries is Thursday 20 February with an extended deadline of Friday 14March. The regular entry fees are $49 (shorts/online) and $59 (features), the extended deadline fees are $59 (shorts/online) and $69 (features). MRC members receive a 25% discount on all fees.

The Gala Awards night will be held on Friday 16 May 2014. A public screening program of the nominated films will screen 17-25 May at the Mercury Cinema.

Established in 1974 in South Australia, the Media Resource Centre is committed to assisting emerging filmmakers at every stage of their involvement in film, video and new media and to foster the creation of unique and engaging content.
