Ex Mediacom boss Anne Parsons joins SMI

Former Mediacom boss Anne Parsons has re-emerged as boss of agency expenditure monitor Standard Media Index’s European operation.

The announcement will come as good news for Mediacom’s Australian operation, with previous speculation that at the end of her non compete period – which she has spend overseas – Parsons would return to a rival and reconnect with previous clients.

Parsons will be CEO of SMI Europe from next month as the organisation aims to expand beyond Australia.

The company’s business model is based on media agencies anonymously sharing their spending data which in theory offers a cleaer picture than spending estimates by Nielsen which tend to be based on ratecard and probable discount.

Parsons, who is one of Australia’s most highly regarded media agency executives and has been based in Europe for the last 12 months, will be responsible for SMI’s European expansion. She begins in the role in March.

In other moves Carolyn Fox,  former chief operating officer of Zenith Media and then Mediacom, will become SMI’s Asia Pacific CEO, whilst Sue Fennessy, SMI Global CEO focuses on the North American market.

In another significant move Rob Landsberry becomes SMI’s global IT director after 17 years as MD of BCC Ad Systems.
