Social media giant Facebook is looking for a new Australian boss following the promotion of local managing director Will Easton to the role of head of emerging markets for Asia Pacific.

Facebook announced the promotion this morning with Easton, who has led the Australian operation since January 2013, to be based in Singapore from mid-August.

“The emerging markets across Asia Pacific are arguably one of Facebook’s biggest opportunities in relation to delivering against our company mission of connecting the world. Will has done a fantastic job building our Australian and New Zealand business and will bring a huge amount of experience and value in his new role as head of emerging markets”, said Dan Neary Facebook’s APAC vice president in a statement.

Easton’s responsibilities will cover some of the larger emerging markets including India, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam & Thailand and he will report to Neary.

Facebook said he will focus on building and scaling the company’s solutions and offerings across its various applications and services for high growth markets.

Easton is former managing director of mobile & social – Asia Pacific for Google and has also worked as director of sales for Microsoft. Facebook said he will continue to manage the ANZ business until his successor is appointed.

“We have an incredibly talented local team who are well positioned to take the business in Australia and New Zealand to its next stage of growth. Moving forward, the opportunity to lead Facebook’s growth in one of the most dynamic and exciting regions in the world is a ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’ which I’m really excited about taking on,” said Easton.
