Fairfax Media making a TV version of the Australian Financial Review to be broadcast on Nine
Fairfax Media is developing a television version of the The Australian Financial Review which will be broadcast on Sunday mornings on the Nine network.
The executive producer will be former Nine news director Mark Calvert, who resigned from that position a year ago, and is now a freelancer.
Nine staffers met today with Fairfax to discuss the program, with getting a major a sponsor on board the main priority.
No on-air date has yet been set.
British-born Calvert overhauled the Nine News brand, before being replaced by network veteran and former A Current Affair boss Darren Wick.
Commercial Director of the Financial Review Group, Simon Smith, said in a statement: “It’s early days. We’re working with Nine on a potential broadcast partnership. Nine would be the perfect fit for such a venture as there are strong synergies between our brands. Adding broadcast to the Financial Review’s current print and digital platforms would ensure our leading business journalism is extended to a broader audience and would also add another element to the solutions we provide to advertisers who want to reach business, finance and policy makers.”
Agencies were today notified of the upcoming program, which will air later in the year once details and on air hosts are finalised.
“It is a Fairfax Media production and their sales team will be responsible for advertising,” a Nine spokeswoman said today.
“We will have minimal involvement in it, but our main role will to be the broadcaster.”
The moves comes weeks after News Limited took on Meet The Press for Ten.

Cool. Fairfax should aim to have a live-stream of this on their websites too… but I doubt that will happen.

The sense of entitlement on the Internet is amazing.

Great move.
A model similar to WSJ TV would be ideal for AFR.
Use your newsroom talent to create great discussion on daily business news, technology, politics & finance, push the content onto the app, website, TV, podcasts etc.

@Abc was that sarcasm?

Ryan: Let’s pray that they don’t copy WSJ. It is like watching elephants crap.

As a professional cleaner at Taronga Zoo, Nuts, I take great offence at your allegation that WSJ TV is like watching elephants crap. Watching these great yet gentle beats drop a steaming pile of number twos from such heights, to hit the ground below with a resoundingly splushy splat, is MUCH more rewarding that WSJ TV.

@Abc – won’t Andrew be able to see it free on Nine anyway?
And I guess this is designed to compete with ABC’s Inside Business – also free to air and available to watch free here:

Deepest apologies to the pachyderms Jack. They are, of course, far more elegant in their stooping than ever you would see on WSJ TV. The pity is that Fairfax won’t pay you for the air time (whereas of course they must pay Gyngell to use his useless Sunday morning slot).

@Abc — Last time I checked Nine was free-to-air
