Fifi Box and Dave Thornton to host Fox FM breakfast in Melbourne

fifi box dave thorntonFifi Box and Dave Thornton will be the new team for Fox FM’s breakfast show in Melbourne, the radio station has revealed.

The move means that the Today Network will also have a new lineup for its national drivetime show, which has been presented by Box and Jules Lund for the last three years.

Box and Thornton will succeed Matt Tilley and Jo Stanley, who announced a month ago that they would be stepping down from the Matt & Jo Show after a decade.

The Melbourne radio market will see radical changes next year with Nova’s market leading Hughesy & Kate breakfast show, with Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek, ending after 12 years. They will be replaced by Meshel Laurie and Tommy Little.

Box told Mumbrella: “Growing up in Melbourne, when I got into radio I never I never dreamed I could be on the Fox FM breakfast show.”

The Today Network, which is owned by Southern Cross Austereo, will make a further announcement about its drivetime lineup shortly.

Thornton, who comes from a standup comedy background, added: “It feels like we’re kids in a candy store.”

Dave Cameron, head of Today Network said: “Fifi and Dave for breakfast represent a completely fresh approach for the Fox in 2014.”

The radio dramas also extend to the Sydney market, where The Kyle & Jackie O Show – presented by Kyle Sandilands and Jackie Henderson – is due to come to an end on the Today Network’s 2Day FM. The duo are in talks for a shift across to Australian Radio Network, with Mix FM being their most likely station.

Nova will also be changing its drivetime lineup, thanks to Laurie’s move to Melbourne breakfast. A new co-presenter to join Marty Sheargold and Tim Blackwell is yet to be revealed.

Box said: “I’ve never seen the radio landscape shift like this.”
