Financial comparison site Mozo launches search for ‘vice’ president

MozoFinancial comparison website, Mozo.com.au, has launched a campaign to find Australia’s first ‘vice’ president.

The Race for Vice President campaign aims to discover what Australia’s top vices are, such as booze, gadgets, takeaway food, clothes and shoes and coffee.

Using the Mozo online Vice Calculator, candidates are invited to find out how much money they spend on their vice and then write up a campaign promise which will be voted on by the public.

In addition to being named Australia’s First Vice President, the winner will receive a $5000 deposit into a high interest bank account of their choice selected from Mozo.com.au.

Rohan Gamble, managing director of Mozo and former Virgin Money boss, said: “This campaign is about providing a lighthearted but also enlightening insight into the spending habits of everyday Australians.

“And it is staggering how much we do all spend on our vices. For instance, our Vice Calculator estimates that a 25 year old who buys just one coffee a day spends a staggering $75,400 over their lifetime on coffee alone – that’s a lot of lattes that could have been put towards that dream home.”

The winning candidate will be announced on Australia Day, 26 January, 2010.

This year, Fairfax signed a deal to hand over the running of its moneymanager.com.au personal finance site to Mozo.
