Former SMH and M&C Saatchi staffers appointed to bolster UNSW comms team
The former editor-in-chief of The Sydney Morning Herald, Darren Goodsir, has joined the UNSW external relationships team along with former M&C Saatchi group operations director Amir Mireskandari.
The University of New South Wales made the appointments to bolster its calibre of academic and professional staff with a spokesperson saying the new staffers will bring a new breadth and depth of experience to the university’s External Relations team
At his time at The SMH Goodsir was a the deputy editor for 10 months before moving to the online editor for eight months. Following that he was the paper’s news director before taking role of editor-in-chief for almost four years.
Fiona Docherty, vice president of external relations at UNSW, said in a statement: “We set out to attract exceptional individuals, professional leaders capable of helping the University achieve its bold and ambitious strategic plan.
“Both Darren and Amir will bring invaluable insights into how social, mobile and other digital platforms can help UNSW bring to life the impact its education and research mission is having, in Australia and overseas.
“Their work across marketing and communications will help us connect with potential staff and students who want to join one of the most successful universities globally; and with partners who share our commitment to academic excellence in support of advancing a just society for all.”
Wow, it’d be a slight change pace of going from the editor-in-chief of the most-read newspaper in the country to a university comms team, you’d think.
