Foxtel to be available on Telstra T-Box
Pay TV provider Foxtel has continued its strategy of pushing its services beyond its own set top boxes with the announcement of a deal making its key channels available in metropolitan markets via the Telstra T-Box.
The deal will see 30 channels – including Fox 8, Discovery, Fox Sports Play, Movie One and Showtime Premiere – streamed directly to T-Box and unmetered via either a Telstra BigPond ADSL or cable broadband service.
Telstra is a 50% owner of Foxtel. Telstra’s home entertianment device T-Box was launched last year.
The deal follows a similar one last year which sees owners of the XBox 360 able to obtain a selection of Foxtel channels. And Foxtel has also recently launched an On demand service for subscribers with IQ boses which allows them to access cotnent via broadband rather than have it broadcast via cable or satellite. In December Foxtel announced a new deal with Optus which saw the telco resume marketing its service to customers after a two year break.
The T-Box deal will also include on-demand TV.
The deal is an important one for Foxtel as it becomes increasingly tough to continue its subscriber growth.
Telstra CEO David Thodey said: “With T-Boxes in close to 120,000 Australian homes, Telstra is helping to usher in a new era of internet-delivered home entertainment across Australia.”
Foxtel CEO Kim Williams said: “With this new offer we are able – through Telstra – to reach new customer segments. For those Australians who may not yet be ready to take the full Foxtel service… then Foxtel on T-Box offers a superb alternative that will connect strongly with their wants and needs.”
Pricing for the package has not yet been revealed.
So does this mean Foxtel content shall be avaliable on the T-Box in regional areas?
