The announcement:

Foxtel to donate proceeds from advertising packages during special sport and entertainment bushfire charity events

Foxtel today announced that proceeds from special advertising packages for its broadcast of the bushfire charity events held by Cricket Australia, the AFL and NRL would be donated to assist people and communities affected by bushfires across Australia.

Foxtel’s commitment extends to all sports and entertainment charity events broadcast on Foxtel and Kayo to support the bushfire relief and recovery effort. Initially Foxtel is aiming to raise up to $500,000 through the special advertising packages during:

Cricket Australia’s charity match expected to be announced today which will be broadcast live on FOX CRICKET and streamed on KAYO and potentially featuring members of the FOX commentary team including Shane Warne and Adam Gilchrist.

The AFL’s State of Origin match on Friday, February 28 at Marvel Stadium which will be broadcast live on FOX FOOTY and streamed on KAYO.

The opening match of Round 1 of the NRL Season between the Eels and Bulldogs on Thursday, 12 March which the NRL has deemed a dedicated bushfire appeal round. The match will be broadcast live on FOX LEAGUE and streamed on KAYO.

Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany said: “These charity events are all about supporting the people and communities affected by the devastating bushfires Australia is continuing to experience.

“Donating the proceeds from the special advertising packages is a way for Foxtel and its advertising partners to double-down on the fund-raising efforts of the sporting codes and players. Monies raised through each broadcast will go to the charity or programs associated with each sports or entertainment event.”

Foxtel Media CEO Mark Frain added: “We are aiming to raise up to $500,000 dollars from these initial three events supporting the efforts of the sporting codes and players.

“We believe the amount we raise through this initiative will grow as other sports hold charity events where Foxtel is a broadcast partner. This includes the anticipated Fire Fight concert at ANZ Stadium in February which will see an amazing line-up of international and local musicians and entertainers raise money for the relief effort.

“Everyone in Australia is doing their part to support the recovery effort and Foxtel Media and its advertisers are pleased to be playing our small part in supporting the amazing response from the Australian community to what has occurred.”
