Foxtel wins exclusive international cricket rights

The Foxtel Group has picked up exclusive, multi-year rights for some of the world’s key cricket fixtures.

The long-term deals will see all competitions, and all Australian men’s and women’s Test, One Day International (ODI) and T20 tours played in South Africa, England — except The Ashes — and India, exclusively on Foxtel and Kayo Sports.

In addition to these matches, Foxtel and Kayo also air New Zealand Cricket, the Indian Premier League, all Australian men’s and women’s Tests, One Day Internationals, T20s, BBL and WBBL matches.

“We have been proud partners of Cricket South Africa, the English and Wales Cricket Board and the BCCI for more than a decade,” said Foxtel Group executive director, commercial – sport, Rebecca McCloy.

“These renewed deals mean that the Foxtel Group will continue to deliver customers unrivalled coverage of the biggest and best line-up of international and local cricket.

“Alongside our comprehensive rights to domestic cricket, which we have until 2031, this announcement is great news for our millions of subscribers who can continue enjoy the most extensive coverage of cricket in Australia and around the world.”

This comes in the same week that Amazon Prime Video announced it had won exclusive streaming rights to all men’s and women’s ICC events, including the Men’s and Women’s Cricket World Cups, T20 World Cups, Champions Trophy, U19s and the World Test Championship Final.

Free TV CEO Bridget Fair told Mumbrella that the Amazon deal “proves the point” that“streaming giants would be coming for our sports rights here in Australia” if various sporting rights aren’t added to the anti-siphoning list.

Last week, Minister for Communications Michelle Rowland introduced a bill to parliament with a view to expanding the anti-siphoning list.
