George Miller joins Omni AI Film Festival as headline judge

Legendary filmmaker George Miller will lead the jury for Omni AI Film Festival in October 2025.

The announcement:

The OMNI AI Film Festival is proud to announce legendary Australian filmmaker George Miller as a headline judge for its October 2025 edition, signalling a defining moment for the future of AI-generated cinema. Miller, the visionary director behind Mad Max, Happy Feet, and Furiosa, brings decades of boundary-pushing storytelling and cinematic innovation to the OMNI jury, further cementing the festival’s place on the global stage.

“Storytelling has always evolved with technology—from cave paintings to the camera to all sorts of digital technologies. And now we have AI,” says Miller. “The OMNI Festival is part of that evolution.”

Founded by cultural technologists Aryeh Sternberg and Travis Rice, OMNI is Australia’s first festival dedicated entirely to generative and AI-driven cinema. After a successful preview edition in April 2025, which drew entries from over 70 countries, OMNI is preparing for its full-scale launch this October. The festival has already established itself as a key international platform for exploring the creative potential of machine intelligence in visual storytelling.

Among those helping to shape this emerging movement are MADE THIS’ Marie-Celine Merret and Vinne Schifferstein, cultural producers and curators of the AI Artist Collective, whose support helped propel April winner Phil Langer into the spotlight. Both have played a critical role in developing networks that support AI-native artists globally and are actively contributing to the curatorial dialogue ahead of the upcoming edition.

“George Miller’s involvement is a signal to the creative community that AI filmmaking is not just an experiment—it’s an art form worthy of serious attention,” says Schifferstein. “This is a moment of cultural legitimacy.”

Submissions for OMNI 1.0 officially opened on June 22, 2025, with creators invited to submit works ranging from narrative features to experimental shorts, fully or partially generated with AI tools.

“Travis and Aryeh are building a space where legends like Miller can meet the next generation of creators—people reimagining the cinematic form in real time,” adds Merret. “The October edition will be a landmark not just for the artists, but for how audiences experience AI cinema.”
