Gold Walkley for Gary Hughes while Fairfax picks up the most trophies

Fairfax narrowly seized the bragging rights at last night’s Walkley Awards with nine trophies to News Ltd’s eight.

However, News Ltd’s Gary Hughes won the Gold Walkley for his first person reporting on the Victorian bush fire disaster for The Australian.

Meanwhile, the ABC picked up six trophies, the Seven Network four and SBS two.

The only trophy collected by PBL was for Tracy Grimshaw for her interviews on Nine’s A Current Affair.
