Nine and Warner Bros already casting The Golden Bachelor Season 2

The Golden Bachelor premieres in Australia on Monday 20 October (Nine)
Season 1 of Australia’s newest reality TV dating show The Golden Bachelor doesn’t start airing until next week, but production has already begun casting for Season 2.
In application materials seen by Mumbrella, Warner Bros and Nine invited residents Australia across Australia to apply or nominate a loved one.
“Season 2 of The Golden Bachelor is now casting,” it said. “Are you in your 50s or 60s and looking for love in your golden years? Or do you know someone who deserves another shot at their happily ever after?
“We are looking for Australia’s next Golden Bachelor and many incredible women who are excited to find love again. Join us today for an adventure of a lifetime.”

Similar to the Big Brother casting process earlier this year, it appears existing media employees and personalities would be excluded from applying.
In a marked departure from previous seasons, Big Brother’s terms and conditions said anyone applying to be a housemate could not be “an employee of, or in any way associated with, any television broadcaster, news or media organisation, including any web-based media or other online platform or outlet, either in Australia or elsewhere”.
Over the past two years, they must also “not have been an employee, officer, director or agent of the producer [Endemol Shine Australia], any television broadcaster, or any of their related companies, affiliates or licensees”. This rule also applied to members of applicants’ immediate families and those they live with.
The Golden Bachelor appears slightly less restrictive, stating:
By applying for the Programme, the Applicant agrees that they are not employed by, contracted to or otherwise associated with (including personally related to someone employed or contracted by):
- any news or other media or television organisation including, without limitation, any online media platform or outlet or social media platform or service, either in Australia or elsewhere;
- or the Producer or any other entity that is related to or associated with the Producer.
The rules seems to represent a significant departure from Season 1 for The Golden Bachelor, which is set to feature Abbie Chatfield’s mother, Laura Junner, as the same time Abbie is contracted to Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) Listnr. Long-term radio host and MC Bianca Dye is also in the Season 1 cast.
The casting call-out comes ahead of Nine’s Upfronts this week.
Host Samantha Armytage didn’t hint at the show being recommissioned in an interview with News Corp over the weekend.

Asked by Sarah Le Marquand what comes next after Season 1 airs, Armytage said: “I’m open to what’s coming next. I try not to plan too much. And that has been totally the way for my whole career.”
The show premieres on 20 October, and Armytage said it will offer viewers something different.
“I’m really excited. I think everyone’s a bit excited about this show. It’s something completely new, with people who have lived a life. So it has real depth to it. And you don’t often say that about reality dating shows.”
