Graduate openings reappear in sales and marketing

The tap appears to have been turned back on in graduate recruitment for sales and marketing roles, an analysis of the recruitment market suggests.  

The monthly survey by Advantage Professional says that the sales, marketing and retail sector has seen a jump of 57% in graduate jobs in September compared to the same period a year ago. Advertising, media, arts and entertainment graduate jobs are up a more moderate 5%.

The big leap for sales and marketing is only just behind that for accounting – up 87% – management – up 89% and government – up 75%. Overall, graduiate jobs are up by 29%.

In the general jobs market, there are a quarter more advertising and media jobs beign advertised than the same time last year.

They are up by 25.9% for Septemeber compared to the same month last year. Sales, marketing and customer service jobs are up by 19.2%.

However, advertising and media jobs are down 5.4% on August, while sales, marketing and customer service jobs are up 3.5%.

In other sectors, the biggest year-on-year growth is in transport and HR which are both up by more than 46%.

In graduate recruitment, advertising, media, artsd and entertainment jobs are up 5% on last year.
