Greenpeace banner pressures PM to keep her word on coal

Greenpeace has targeted promises made by prime minister Julia Gillard last year with a 200m-long banner laid at the foot of a coal power station.

The green group claims that Gillard has gone back on promises made in 2010 – that no more coal power stations would be built – with plans for coal group HRL to build a plant on dairy farming land.

Activists got up at 4.30am this morning to lay the lettering, which reads: ‘Julia. Keep your word on HRL’, at a power station in Morwell, Victoria.

The campaign was devised and executed by Greenpeace’s communications team.
