Greg Graham departs WPP to ‘pursue other opportunities’
Greg Graham – widely known in the marketing industry as ‘Sparrow’ – is leaving WPP as its group marketing director after 30 years with the holding group.
Graham will leave the group to “pursue other opportunities”, said Mike Connaghan, CEO of WPP AUNZ. His departure follows a recent review of the group’s resources and requirements.
“Over the past 30 years, Sparrow has made an incredible contribution to the Group both with GroupM, and more recently working tirelessly as part of the WPP AUNZ leadership team to drive a cohesive marketing plan for the Group. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Sparrow for his incredible long service and all that he has contributed over time.
“He will always be considered a great friend to the group, and to our agencies, and as such we hope to continue to work with him on special projects as required,” Connaghan said in a statement.
Graham, who was promoted to WPP AUNZ’s group marketing director role in 2016, has also held positions as the business development and marketing officer at Group M and the marketing and new business director at Mindshare USA.
“I’ve been very privileged to have had a 30+ year career ride with the WPP group.
“From a start at JWT Melbourne, launching Mindshare in Australia and then to Mindshare New York for seven years, and then back at GroupM locally, and most recently at WPP AUNZ. I hope to continue my involvement with the group in some capacity in the future, and I want to sincerely thank all my WPP AUNZ/GroupM colleagues & clients. It has been a real honour,” Graham added.
I still wonder what Sparrow accidentally sat on when that photo was taken.

When will business come up with something a bit more “sensitive” than leaving to persue other opportunities. I know Sparrow’s date of birth and to get a job at around his age is almost impossible. Sad as it is experience like his and accumulated IP counts for nothing when you apply for a job.
