Gruen Transfer pulls in 1.2m despite State Of Origin, while Masterchef soars away too

Despite competition from State Of Origin, the ABC’s adland guide The Gruen Transfer continued to deliver the numbers on Wednesday.

Last night’s episode saw Euro RSCG take on Lunch Partners with the topical challenge of making a giant oil spill look like a good thing for the environment. According to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam, it pulled in nearly 1.2m.

Lunch Partners achieved something of a coup by persuading environmental scientist Tim Flannery to appear in its ad, which won the challenge.

Meanwhile, Nine’s Hey Hey It’s Saturday, which now has two more shows until it takes a break until later in the year, pulled in an audience of just 637,000. While this was a low number, the show was bumped back to 10.30pm in Sydney and Brisbane because of State Of Origin.

With NSW already facing a 2-0 deficit, the final match of State of Origin was never going to be a huge one for Nine although it still pulled in a respectable 809,000 in Sydney and 681,000 in Brisbane, totalling 1.8m across the five city ratings.

Facing the ratings draw of State of Origin, Seven offered up documentary Around the World In 90 Minutes (which it spread over 105 minutes). It rated 604,000.

However, Ten’s Masterchef was unaffected by the rugby, racking up an average audience of just over 2m.
