Mumbrella360 recap: Hamish McLennan reveals the three things he would change about Network Ten if he had a time machine
In the first instalment of a series to run over the next few days, we recap the highlights from Ten CEO Hamish McLennan’s appearance at Mumbrella360 earlier this month.
On stage with Mumbrella’s Tim Burrowes, McLennan discussed:
- The three bad strategic decisions he inherited that he would change if he had a time machine;
- How Ten bought the rights to the Big Bash and bid up the price Nine paid for international cricket. “We picked a number that was fair and reasonable and added another $20m to it.”
- Why big format reality-based shows matter to Ten because of what advertising clients want;
- The difficulties of monetising shows watched later on PVRs;
- The move to targeting 25-54 top beat downloading by younger viewers: “We’d go out of business if we stayed with our traditional demographic of 16-39.”
