Hearts & Science fills newly-created Sydney GM role

Media agency Hearts & Science has appointed Peter Skarparis as the Sydney general manager. He’ll start in the role next week.

Joining from GroupM’s EssenceMediacom where he was the client managing partner, Skarparis has 18 years of experience in Australian and the UK markets.

Skarparis will oversee the day-to-day operations of Hearts & Science in Sydney, and report to chief operating officer Luke Hutchinson.

Hutchinson said: “We are constantly evolving with an eye on future developments in media and beyond and, throughout our conversations with Peter, it was clear that his vision for that new future of media planning and customer connection is strongly aligned to the Hearts ambition.

“Core to realising that future potential is our team, and Peter’s commitment to and passion for people and their development in media is second to none.”

Skarparis added: “The team has a clear belief of how brands can take advantage of what the Australian communications landscape has to offer, and I’m looking forward to the journey ahead!”

“Their philosophy of media connecting brands and consumers through experiences aligns with my perspective; it’s progressive, fresh, and really captures our role as modern media professionals.”

Hearts & Science has seen some leadership movements in the past year. Most recently, OMD’s Kylie Pascoe has moved within the group to become the general manager of Hearts & Science Melbourne, following the departure of her predecessor Richard Smith.

In March this year, Darren Stein returned to Omnicom Media Group (OMG) as the national managing director of Hearts & Science and CEO of Annalect, after the role of Hearts & Science’s previous managing director, Wendy Gower, was made redundant.
