Hearts & Sciences wins media for CBCo Brewing

Hearts & Sciences has been appointed to handle media for independent Australian brewery CBCo Brewing, formerly Colonial Brewing Co.

The Omnicom media agency was asked to pitch alongside two other agencies ahead of the WA beer company’s first major brand campaign due to launch next week.

The campaign, for which Hearts & Sciences undertook media strategy, planning and buying across ATL and digital channels, comes after the brewery last month rebranded from CBCo Brewing to ‘reflect modern taste’.

The company’s former name, Colonial Brewing Co, had been the subject of debate two years prior, having been dropped from bottleshop chain Blackhearts and Sparrows based on criticism that the name ‘romanticised Australia’s colonial history.’

Gerard Max, Hearts & Science managing partner, commented: “We’re delighted to have been appointed by this growing and innovative Australian-owned business. Following the competitive pitch we had a great chemistry session with the CBCo team. We’re excited to be working with people who are so obviously passionate about what they do. The fact that we tried, tested and loved CBCo’s product is a wonderful bonus!”

Founded in 2004, CBCo produces quality Australian-made craft beer which represents the unique tastes of modern Australians.

Lawrence Dowd, CBCo Brewing managing director, commented: “As we embark on our first brand campaign in Australia we couldn’t be more excited to be partnering with Hearts & Science. We’ve ambitious growth targets for the brand, and in Hearts we’re confident we have found a team who are genuinely committed to our success.”
