Heineken hands media duties to UM

Lion Beer’s Heineken has appointed UM as its new media agency of record.

The win for the Mediabrands-owned agency comes two years after UM won Lion’s media account from incumbent agency Bohemia.

Heineken has appointed UM to its media account

The brand said it had moved its Heineken account from Zenith to UM to consolidate its media agency roster and “drive greater efficiency and effectiveness”.

Damian Dabkowski, Heineken’s country manager, said in a statement: “Heineken have had a strong working relationship with ZO for many years and we thank the team for their support and dedication to the Heineken brand.”

Jonny Cordony, Zenith’s Sydney GM, added: “Zenith have enjoyed a positive working relationship with Heineken over the last 10 years. We are proud to have delivered effective and innovative work that was recognized globally within the Heineken business and wish Heineken all the success into the future.”

In July, Lion appointed WPP’s VML to its digital and technology account.

Meanwhile in September last year Lion announced a new marketing leadership structure, with the creation of a single marketing director role, which left two senior positions redundant.

As part of the restructure, Gerard Smith took the helm of Lion’s marketing as its marketing director.

UM has been approached for comment.
