Highsnobiety and Semi Permanent take over Paramount House Hotel

Semi Permanent and Highsnobiety have launched a two day experiential hotel takeover at Paramount House Hotel, Sydney, with experiences including an NFT exhibition from Flume.

The announcement:

Semi Permanent and Highsnobiety launch a two-day experiential hotel takeover bringing together global artists, designers and creators to present a vision for the future. Launching May 26 and 27, A Semi Permanent Hotel presented by Highsnobiety features interactive and immersive in-person experiences, as well as exclusive digital content for the global community.

The 48-hour takeover of Sydney’s Paramount House Hotel brings music, fashion, cinema, art and design under one roof with specially curated exhibitions, installations, talks, performances, film screenings, and tastings, and celebrates the people, brands and ideas driving change towards a better version of our future.

Featured experiences and creators include a photography exhibition by filmmaker Gia Coppola; ‘Tiddalik’, an NFT exhibition from musician Flume and artist Jonathan Zawada; ‘Wave Relic’, a collaboration between surfboard designer Haydenshapes, artist Daniel Arsham and apparel designer Chris Stamp; ‘A Positive Message’, a multi-sensory pop-up by streetwear label P.A.M (Perks And Mini) and artist Cali DeWitt; a screening of Japanese-Australian musician Joji’s sold-out digital concert – ‘JOJI PRESENTS: THE EXTRAVAGANZA’, and many more.

Brand partners including Swedish electric vehicle company Polestar, pioneering Scotch whisky innovators Glenfiddich, and luxury travel and lifestyle brand RIMOWA, will take part in the event with completely original activations in collaboration with leading artists and creatives, overseen by Semi Permanent’s curatorial team. Highsnobiety will launch a digital extension of the hotel including exclusive content to a global audience, amplifying the reach of A Semi Permanent Hotel presented by Highsnobiety far beyond its physical footprint.

“This project brings together Semi Permanent’s experience in live events with Highsnobiety’s media reach and cultural cache, making for an incredibly special audience experience,” says Murray Bell, the founder and executive creative director of Semi Permanent. After more than a year in which the traditional form of live events was significantly disrupted, A Semi Permanent Hotel also marks a significant return to physical experiences. “This event really pushes the boundaries of what a hybrid exhibition-brand activation-event might look like in the future, presenting such a breadth and variety of experiences and creative talent at a scale that’s at once intimate and still incredibly impactful.”

“Highsnobiety’s Australian audience is one of the most significant, yet underserved, communities in the world of youth culture. By bringing experiences and access to the local market, we can connect on a deeper level with this highly engaged community. We are pleased to partner with Semi Permanent to bring together artists, designers and creators for our first local experience to bring their stories to life,” said David Fischer, Highsnobiety Co-Founder and CEO.

A curated talks programme, hosted by journalist and researcher Noelle Faulkner, will run as part of each audience session with a standout line-up of Australian creative talent including artists Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran and Jonny Niesche, illustrators Chris Yee and Louise Zhang, musician and poet Genesis Owusu, indigenous culture advocate and poet Dakota Feirer, poet and filmmaker Jazz Money, photographer Pierre Toussaint, and designer Melvin Tanaya of Song for the Mute.

A Semi Permanent Hotel presented by Highsnobiety will be free to attend at Paramount House Hotel from 26-27 May 2021, with tickets available via pre-registration only.
