Host/Havas named Agency of the Year, while Cummins & Partners’ Stop the Horror takes home top gongs at AWARD

Host/Havas is this year’s Agency of the Year, according to the Australasian Writers and Art Directors Association (AWARD) Awards, with the agency also taking home seven Gold Pencils.

Meanwhile, the campaign for Go Gentle, which aimed to get Victorian laws changed around assisted dying, won Chair’s Choice and Best in Show, as well as six Gold Pencils for the agencies involved.

The 39th annual AWARD Awards were announced tonight in Sydney as part of the Semi Permanent Festival, with 48 Gold, 99 Silver and 143 Bronze awards delivered to agencies and brands.

Host/Havas’ Gold Pencils were for its humanitarian-focused campaigns, the Palau Pledge and The Bottom 100.

Colenso BBDO was the next-most-awarded agency, with five Gold Awards, while CHE Proximity, Revolver/Will O’Rourke and Ogilvy & Mather New Zealand all received four Gold Awards.

Aldi won Client of the Year.

Susan Hoffman, co-chief creative officer at Wielden+Kennedy and chair of judges for AWARD said the Stop the Horror campaign by Cummins & Partners, Revolver/Will O’Rourke and Arc Edit won Chair’s Choice because it did exactly what it needed to do.

“This was a hard decision – I based my decision on which campaign stayed with me the longest,” she said. “My choice, Stop the Horror. It was exactly what the media said, it was ‘unwatchable’. The film did a great job of getting the viewer to truly understand the truth of what a terminally ill patient goes through and the need to allow voluntary assisted dying. The ‘stop the horror’ button and landing page brought it all home. Nice job.”

Mike Spirkovski, chair of AWARD, added: “Congratulations to our long and deserving list of finalists and winners, especially to Host/Havas who were awarded the coveted Agency of the Year title, and to Cummins & Partners, Revolver/Will O’Rourke and Arc Edit who have been awarded for Best in Show and Chair’s Choice.

“This year, a record number of 48 Gold pencils have been awarded – a figure which bears testament to the outstanding level of talent in the Asia Pacific region.”

The AWARD Awards is organised by The Communications Council.
