H&R Block sends Aussies to sleep with the Australian Tax Code

H&R Block is recognising that the Australian Tax Code is enough to put anyone to sleep, and after the stressful year that has been 2020, it is helping people nod off to a peaceful slumber.

A new action for Google Assistants, ‘Taxation Relaxation’, will narrate five sections of the Income Tax Assessment Act of 1997 in soothing tones, stimulated by the instruction ‘Hey Google, talk to Taxation Relaxation’.

Created by H&R Block’s creative agency The Works, and supported by a social media campaign from PHD, Taxation Relaxation comes ahead of the October 31 deadline for people to lodge their own tax returns.

Louise Cummins, H&R Block’s marketing and digital innovations director, said the action would reassure listeners that they should lose sleep over their returns.

“Tax time can be daunting for many and there’s no doubt that listening to the Income Tax Assessment Act of 1997 on our Taxation Relaxation voice experience will put anyone to sleep,” Cummins said.

“We thought this was a fun way to demonstrate you needn’t lose sleep about not getting your taxes done as our tax experts are across all the complicated regulations to make sure our clients get every tax deduction they are entitled.”

The Works’ creative partner, Douglas Nicol, said: “Our ‘The Voice of Us’ research shows the use of voice assistants and smart speakers is booming with 11.3 million or 69 percent of Australians having used their voice to interact with devices. H&R Block are capitalising on this growing trend with its first foray in voice and this innovative Action for the Google Assistant we’ve created is guaranteed to put any insomniac to sleep.”

H&R Block approached the end of the financial year by recognising the complications of the 2020 tax season, asking the big questions about Job Seeker payments and working from home entitlements.
