“I’m making one film from the heart and one from the wallet”: Warwick Thornton

In the second part of our interview with Warwick Thornton, the director talked about his role in the ‘Trinity’ creative group he’s formed with Beck Cole and Kath Shelper, the reasons why he’s not very interested in television, and the two films that he’s working on, “one from the heart, and one from the wallet”.

“I want to go back to Cannes and win the big one (the Palm d’Or), be nominated for an Oscar, make shitloads of money here in Australia, have a presale and buy a house in north Queensland,” Warwick told Encore.

Thornton also discussed his collaborative approach to filmmaking, and his contribution as DOP of Beck Cole’s Here I Am, which premiered last Saturday at the BigPond Adelaide Film Festival.
