Instagram passes two million active advertisers

Facebook has announced that Instagram passed the two million monthly active advertisers mark, doubling its user base over the past six months alone.

Instagram’s representatives were unable to say how many local advertisers are using the service in Australia when approached by Mumbrella.

The service claims to have increased advertiser numbers fourfold since clocking 500,000 in September 2016, with the top verticals using the platform being eCommerce, consumer packaged goods, retail, entertainment & media and gaming.

“Some of the earliest adopters of advertising on the platform include eCommerce, retail, entertainment and gaming businesses,” said Will Easton, managing director of Facebook Australia and New Zealand in a media statement.

“We’ve seen impressive results from local partners successfully connecting with target audiences including Qantas, Coca-Cola and HiSmile. We’re excited to see how advertisers continue to use Instagram in creative ways to reach their community both locally and globally.”

The company also claims half of the 15 million businesses using the platform have produced an Instagram Story in the past month.

User engagement for video is another area the service is claiming large increases, citing users spend 80% more time watching video on Instagram, while the number of videos produced per day increasing by more than four times over the last year.
