Ex-Interbrand executive creative director Mike Rigby is set to move to New York to take on the role of ECD of brand with digital powerhouse R/GA.

R/GA is one of the most respected digital agencies in the world, boasting clients including Nike, Beats, Red Bull and Google, and Rigby will report into Australian expat and global chief creative officer Nick Law for his new role, where he will be tasked with leading “innovative and commercially relevant brand thinking and design”.

On the move, Interbrand said: “Mike actually departed Interbrand Australia in February of this year. Our creative offering and talent continues to be one of the strongest in the industry with Chris Maclean, who has been with the business for over six years leading a number of award-winning campaigns, continuing in his role as ECD and supported by CD’s Oliver Maltby and Ben Miles.

“Mike will always be a friend to all at Interbrand Australia and we wish him all the best in his new role in New York.”

Rigby is the second Interbrand exec R/GA has poached in recent months, with Sydney general manager Andy Wright moving over to head up R/GA’s fledgling Sydney operation as managing director after the departure of Amir Youssef.

In a statement Rigby said: “Joining R/GA represents a unique opportunity to work with one of the most diverse and extraordinary talent pools anywhere in the world. Not only does R/GA have the vision and foresight to successfully predict the future of business and commerce – it also has the people and the capability to actually build it.

“It’s this unique combination of thinking and making that stands R/GA apart from other agencies. And ultimately, that’s why I’m so proud and excited to be a part of the team.”

Rigby has been with Interbrand for over four years, first in a creative director role before being promoted to ECD in January last year, having started his career at highly-awarded agency The Chase in London.

Law said in a statement: “Mike’s unique creative vision and history of delivering world class, award-winning work will help us continue to innovate our capability. Since our success as a company depends on connecting diverse talents and ways of thinking, it also helps that Mike is a great bloke.”

Rigby has also been president of The Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA) New South Wales branch for more than two and a half years.
