Chalmers has joined the university as the director of marketing and communications and leads a team of some 60 plus marketers, communicators, designers and curators.

In his new role Chalmers will be responsible for the strategic direction of the marketing and communications functions at UTS; driving innovative strategy, concepts and content across all platforms and developing the university brand.

Anne Dwyer, deputy vice-chancellor of corporate services at UTS, said: “UTS has been on a very noticeable upward trajectory over the past few years. Through a $1.3billion investment in a state-of-the-art campus, including Sydney’s first Frank Gehry-designed building, it has attracted a lot of attention.

“At the same time, it’s been moving quickly up the international rankings, and experiencing unprecedented student demand. Now we’re keen to leverage that success, ensuring the university’s global reputation continues to grow, and we believe John is the right person to lead that next stage of growth in our brand.”

Chalmers joined Isentia in July 2009 as group communications manager, Asia-Pacific before being promoted in September 2013 to executive director, marketing and communications, Asia-Pacific.

Prior to that he was the lifestyle editor of Pacific Magazines’ Men’s Health.

Chalmers said: “I’m thrilled to be joining such a dynamic and vibrant organisation as it makes its mark on the world through academic excellence, its innovative approach to practice oriented learning, high impact applied research and positive student outcomes.”

On departing Isentia Chalmers said: ““I enjoyed a really great journey over nearly eight years at Isentia, as the company transformed from a private business through private equity and acquisition to become an ASX200 listed organisation and the market leader throughout Asia.

“I know Isentia will go on to even more success but for me it felt like the right time to start writing the next chapter.

“I look forward to sharing the abundance of fantastic UTS stories with staff, students and alumni, the professions and industry we work with so closely, and the global community in which we are so proud to take part.”
