Jane Huxley named as Fairfax’s metro digital publisher
Fairfax Media has named Jane Huxley as digital publisher of its new Metro Media division, as the company continues to announce promotions and departures as a result of its major restructuring.
Huxley was previously GM of media at Fairfax Digital. In her new role she will report in to Fairfax’s Metro Media boss Jack Matthews who previously ran Fairfax Digital.
Huxley has been with Fairfax Media for three years. Prior to that she did a brief stint at Vodafone preceded by 16 years with Microsoft focusing on Office and Windows.
The new role will see Huxley charged with “leading the product, mobile and online business strategies and will oversee the technology, digital marketing and editorial and creative services divisions in this newly created position”, said Fairfax.
Matthews said: “Jane has been a driving force in the Fairfax business, responsible for the strong growth of our digital mastheads and the development of leading mobile and custom advertising solutions. She is a natural fit to take on the digital publisher role.”
Matthews has already announced a Sydney publisher with the promotion of Sydney Morning Herald editor-in-chief Peter Fray.
Yesterday saw the departure of Michael Gill as boss of Fairfax’s Financial Review Group and appointment of The Australian’s Brett Clegg into the role. Glenn Burge was also removed as editor of the AFR, with his future role unclear.
Congrats Jane on a very interesting role.

Seems to be a lot of movement for the good at Fairfax this week. Has anyone noticed that to date the majority of commercial changes have involved old school print staff leaving, and key digital personnel being moved into top positions. Will be interesting to see if this is the same approach for middle management downwards….there could be a lot of print reps scouring the job market this time next month!!
