Jimmy Barnes asks Australians to buy air guitars in PlayAir new campaign

Rock singer-songwriter Jimmy Barnes invites Australians to pay for air instruments to support those who can’t afford the real ones in a new campaign for The Song Room’s annual fundraiser, PlayAir.

The campaign spot, which was produced by Department of the Future, shows Barnes explaining the initiative and encouraging audience to ‘tune up those air guitars’, as six other men play their air instruments.

“Air guitar has a massive following in Australia and Jimmy Barnes is such a legend to many Australians that the two elements become quite powerful,” said Ivan Gomez, managing director at Department of the Future.

Gomez said it was an honour to be working with Barnes and his daughter, Mahalia Barnes, who directed the spot.

PlayAir encourages people to spend $2 at JB Hi-Fi outlets to purchase an ‘air instrument’ set, with the donation leading to the purchase of real instruments for schoolchildren throughout Australia.

The campaign will roll out this week on national television and run until October.
