Johnathan Thurston encourages Queenslanders to prepare for storm season in Suncorp ad

Former NRL star Johnathan Thurston is fronting a campaign for Suncorp Insurance, telling Queenslanders to prepare for the upcoming storm season.

The ad starts out with Thurston appearing to be getting ready for a game, but instead he is pitching in with his community to help prevent storm damage.

Suncorp Insurance manager marketing, Travis Hughes, said the campaign made reference to the financial institution’s origins in the state.

“Storm season is part of life in Queensland and as a Queensland-based company, we’ve been with our customers through bushfires, floods, hailstorms and cyclones,” Hughs said. “Our latest campaign highlights the simple actions people can take to protect themselves, their families and their communities when these events hit.”

The campaign was created by Leo Burnett. The TVC was directed by Greg Wood of the production company Exit Films.

The campaign will appear on television, radio, out of home, press and social.

Earlier this year, Suncorp launched a campaign that paid homage to its northern roots, highlighting the uniquely Queensland events that its residents would need insurance for, including giant goanna home invasions and cane toad plumbing problems.
