Jonesy and Amanda confirm move to drive on air

Gold 101.7 breakfast duo Brendan ‘Jonesy’ Jones and Amanda Keller have confirmed news reports they are moving to the station’s drive slot.

The pair officially revealed the news on air this morning, which was reported by Mumbrella on Thursday morning.

“We have re-signed here at Gold,” Keller said. “But, there are going to be some changes. Brendan and I are going to go to the drive shift.”

Jones said they initially planned to keep the news quiet but were prompted by reports in the media, as well as the release of the Game Changers podcast tomorrow, which is expected to discuss it.

“Radio’s about being authentic and real and that’s what we are,” he explained.

“To be authentic and real, we could have stayed doing the breakfast hours for longer,” Keller added. “But, as long as you guys come with us and listen to us in drive – we’re excited.

“To be given a chance after a 20-year-old show to try something new, I’m looking forward to that.”

It is understood that Christian O’Connell’s top-rating breakfast show on Melbourne’s Gold 104.3 will be networked into Sydney, although parent company ARN is yet to confirm this.

Last week, ARN’s chief audience and content officer Lauren Joyce told Mumbrella “the show has appeal beyond the market that it’s in”.

“We’re really pleased with the success that we’ve had in Melbourne with the Christian O’Connell show, and then certainly, where the show is syndicated at night already across the rest of the network, it delivers solid numbers.

“We certainly think that, yes, there is a life for the show outside of Melbourne. As to when that happens? You know we haven’t locked down any plans at this stage.”

Last year,  O’Connell told Mumbrella “my goals are very clear.”

“I want the show to be more available and that means outside of Melbourne and live.

“That’s really important to me, really important. It’s nothing to do with domination or trying to be number one somewhere else. It’s about just making it more available.”
