Journalist Peter Greste jailed by Egyptian court

Journalists’ union the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance has condemned tonight’s verdict of an Egyptian court jailing journalists including Australian Peter Greste for seven years for”defaming” the country.

The award-winning Greste left Australia in 1991 to pursue a career as a foreign correspondent.

He was one of three Al Jazeera English journalists sentenced today and has already been locked up for more than six months.
