Changes are continuing at recently rebranded youth publisher Junkee Media with content director and co-owner Tim Duggan named as publisher and the appointment of a chief information officer and a head of video.

The new roles come a week after Sound Alliance rebranded to Junkee Media, with the name change an effort to better reflect the publisher’s focus as a new media player innovating in mobile, video, social and native content.

Duggan has been with the publisher since co-founding gay and lesbian site SameSame.com.au in 2006. At the end of 2009 he took on the marketing director role for the company and was made content director in 2012.

While Duggan has taken on the publisher role, long serving technical lead Ian Grant has been promoted to chief information officer and Vincent Rommerlaere has been hired as Junkee Media’s new head of video.

Rommelaere joins in the new role from his own production company Wallaby Way where he worked with the likes of Tourism Australia, Red Bull and Absolut. He will lead the team responsible for video content for Junkee Media properties and partners.

“Video is one of our key areas of focus over the next 12 months. We’ve worked with Vincent as a freelancer for a few years, and his vision, ideas and creativity are very impressive. We’re currently working on several video projects for our own channels and some of our brand partners that will showcase Vincent and his video team’s true talents,” said Ackland.

“As the business has developed so have several key roles,” said Duggan in a statement. “By repositioning Junkee Media we wanted to present a more coherent face to the market, so adopting the role of ‘Publisher’ seemed like the right move at the right time.”

Grant takes on the chief information role after just over nine and a half years working with the publisher. He leads the team developing all of Junkee Media’s digital properties, mobile innovation, advertising platform integration and effectiveness evaluation for editorial and advertising products.

Sound Alliance CEO Neil Ackland said in a statement: “We are constantly evolving all aspects of the business with the challenge to ensure that technology, data and insights push us forward not hold us back. It’s a challenge that Ian and his tech team love and this is a role he will excel at.”
