Kate Browne appointed new Yahoo Finance editor-in-chief

Acclaimed finance journalist Kate Browne has been appointed as the new Yahoo Finance Australia editor-in-chief.

Kate Browne, former editor-at-large and media spokesperson at Finder, will be responsible for leading Yahoo’s finance vertical in Australia, effective immediately. She will be in charge of Yahoo Finance’s editorial strategy and team, reporting to Euan Black, director of content at Yahoo Australia and New Zealand.

Browne joins with over a decade of experience in journalism, broadcast media, and corporate communications. She was previously a TV presenter & writer at the ABC, and has appeared regularly as a finance expert across various shows including Sunrise, Seven News, Today, Nine News, The Project, SBS world news and ABC Breakfast.

While at Finder, Browne led all personal finance content across Finder online, focusing on consumer issues and financial challenges facing Australians.

Commenting on the announcement, Black said: “Kate is a phenomenal talent and a welcome addition to the Yahoo family. She shares our vision to empower Australians to take control of their finances and her passion and experience in the personal finance space is more relevant than ever as our audience feels the pinch of the country’s cost of living crisis.

“Since we relaunched Yahoo Finance to the Aussie market in 2018 our audience has more than doubled. We’ve worked hard to build an engaged audience that relies on Yahoo Finance to stay informed. Kate is the perfect person to take us to the next level and help Australians navigate this challenging financial climate, while shining a light on topics and stories that matter most.”

Since 2018 Yahoo Finance has launched events, webinars, and interactive online communities such as the Broke Millennials Club and the Women’s Money Movement aimed at helping Australians to better understand their finances. Browne will be continuing Yahoo Finance’s legacy of addressing financial inequality by educating audiences on ways to improve their financial wellbeing.

On joining Yahoo, Browne added: “I’m eager to be joining Yahoo Finance at such a pivotal moment. Finance has never been more interesting, particularly in the past few years.”

“Not only has technology democratised finance with the introduction of cryptocurrency, buy-now-pay-later options, and micro-investing, but larger economic issues such as the rising cost of living and interest rates are really making people look at their budgets and pay more attention across the board. Everyone’s questioning ‘what’s next’ and Yahoo Finance is in the perfect position to help answer that.”
