Killer Elite finds Open Road of US distribution

Omnilab Media’s Killer Elite has been acquired by new distributor Open Road Films for an US release in the autumn, with more than 2000 screens and supported by $25m in P&A.

“In Open Road Films we’ve found a fantastic partner to bring Killer Elite to American audiences.  Their distribution model is one of the most exciting in the marketplace and we are looking forward to an incredibly productive partnership with Tom Ortenberg and his team,” said Omnilab managing director Christopher Mapp.

The deal, which includes all US distribution rights, was negotiated by Open Road CEO Tom Ortenberg, and executive producers Matthew Street and Peter D. Graves on behalf of Omnilab. Killer Elite will be Open Road Films’ first release. The acquisition-based theatrical distribution company is a joint venture of AMC Entertainment and Regal Entertainment Group.

Killer Elite is a fantastic, adrenaline-rush movie with a stellar cast. As one of the highest profile, big budget independent films available for the US, I am thrilled to have Killer Elite as Open Road’s premiere release and to extend my long-standing relationship with the team at Omnilab,” said Ortenberg.

The film, based on the non-fiction novel The Feather Men by Sir Ranulp Fiennes, stars Jason Statham, Clive Owen and Robert DeNiro. It was shot in Melbourne under the direction of Gary McKendry, and financed by Omnilab’s production arm Ambience Entertainment.
