Kingsman: The Golden Circle kicks IT off top spot at weekend box office

Fox’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle, has knocked horror movie IT off the box office podium, collecting $5.716m on its opening weekend.

Starring Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Taron Egerton, Halle Berry, Elton John and Channing Tatum, the second action spy comedy film of the series, follows members of Kingsman as they find new allies in the United States.

Horror film IT fell from first to second place over the weekend, making $2.410m across 351 screens.

Since its premiere, the film has made a total of $18.619m, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia.

It still managed to beat Sony’s The Emoji Movie which slipped to third, earning $1.551m across 331 screens.

The film features an emoji called Gene, who can make multiple facial expressions unlike other Emojis. Determined to be normal, he enlists the help of his best friend Hi-5 and a code breaker called Jailbreak.

Fourth place went to Universal’s Victoria and Abdul, grossing $1.302m in its second weekend at box office.

The film has made $4.183m in total.

Fox’s Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie placed fifth over the weekend, earning $966,141 across 289 screens in all states except South Australia.

The film stars Jordan Peele, Nick Kroll and Kevin Hart, and tells the story of two mischievous kids who hypnotise their principal and turn him into a comic book creation.
