My Kitchen Rules wins 1.66m for Seven but Aussie cricket wins Nine the night

Australia’s success over England in the last Twenty/20 cricket match which gave the home side a 12-1 lead over the tourists across the summer won 1.379m viewers for Channel Nine last night, helping it win the biggest audience share despite Seven’s My Kitchen Rules winning the night.

My Kitchen Rules held onto over 1.66m viewers as the show entered its second week last night making it the most watched TV program in all people and in people 25-54.

The show’s success comes ahead of Seven’s launch of the anticipated two-part TV drama series INXS: Never Tear Us Apart, created by Shine Australia in collaboration with the band, which is set to debut next Sunday.

Seven also had strong results for its premiere of new magic show Tricked, which follows young English street magician Ben Hanlin with hidden cameras as he performs tricks for unsuspecting people. The UK import by ITV Studios Global Entertainment  was second in its timeslot after the cricket with 1.194m metro viewers and third in people 25-54.

Meanwhile Ten’s The Biggest Loser: Challenge Australia had a two hour run from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, with both shows were fourth in their timeslots with 525,000 viewers for the first hour and 616,000 for the second.

Nine’s The Block: Fans v Faves had a stronger audience than The Biggest Loser despite showing in just Sydney and Melbourne last night as it had 638,000 viewers in the two cities from 6.30pm.

ABC1 was third in the 7.30pm timeslot with documentary The Real Mary Poppins, about the Australian author of the classic children’s book Pamela Travers, who is the subject of the recent Disney film Saving Mr Banks.

ABC1 followed the documentary with crime thriller film The Broken Shore, which had 912,000 viewers, helping the network win a 15.8 per cent audience share last night, above Ten’s 12.7 per cent.
