Kylie Kwong joins Gourmet Traveller as a columnist

Chef Kylie Kwong has been announced as the latest columnist for Gourmet Traveller.

A new column, Community by Kylie, will launch in the January 2020 edition of Gourmet Traveller

Gourmet Traveller magazine, the authority on the best in food, wine and travel, has announced a new collaboration with iconic Australian chef, Kylie Kwong. The announcement comes after a long and intimate relationship between the two parties, who have been working together for the past few years.

In 2018, Gourmet Traveller recognised Kylie for her outstanding contribution to hospitality at its annual Restaurant Awards, acknowledging the success of her long-running restaurant Billy Kwong. In the years since, the publication has featured several of Kylie’s recipes, including her mother’s famous pavlova recipe in 2007.

“We’ve long admired Kylie Kwong for her cooking, advocacy and leadership – both within the hospitality industry and the wider community,” said Gourmet Traveller editor Joanna Hunkin. “She is a genuine thought leader and has one of the most curious and creative minds we’ve ever worked with. When we were looking ahead to 2020 and the voices we wanted to include, Kylie was the first person we turned to.”

In an effort to provide a platform for Kylie’s unique voice, Gourmet Traveller will launch a new monthly column – Community by Kylie. In each edition, Kylie will introduce readers to some of her favourite food heroes and the individuals helping to grow a stronger community.

“Community by Kylie is designed to create space for new voices and stories, and to celebrate the individuals building a stronger community for all of us,” continued Hunkin. “Each month, Kylie will personally select someone to introduce to our readers and share their story.”

Upcoming columns will showcase interviews with Australian author, journalist and broadcast presenter, Indira Naidoo as well as Dwayne Bannon Harrison, founder and managing director of Ngaran Ngaran Culture Awareness (NNCA).

Community by Kylie will commence in the January edition of Gourmet Traveller, which will hit shelves from 30 December. Also included in the January issues are features on the best spots in Australia to escape, essential summer reads and the best recipes for a pool party or a summer of tennis.
