‘Laugh without leaking’, says Continence Foundation in campaign fronted by Bev Killick
The Continence Foundation of Australia has recruited comedian and actress Bev Killick to encourage those struggling with incontinence to ‘Laugh Without Leaking’.
Created by The Shannon Company, the 30-second ad features a snippet of Killick’s comedy performance where she makes jokes about wetting her pants.
The ad aims to encourage the one in five Australians suffering with incontinence of various levels to seek help.
According to the Continence Foundation, incontinence costs the economy more than $67bn a year.
“I have been getting a lot of laughs at stand up shows in my new role as the Comedy Queen of Continence. As a mother and a comedian, I know what it is like to have a ‘wee accident’ when you laugh, sneeze, cough or jump. Sadly, my trampolining career is on hold,” Killick said in a statement.
Ian Forsyth, managing partner at The Shannon Company, added: “We encouraged the Foundation to confront the problem head on, and in discussions with their partner, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, we discovered that a stand-up comedian’s biggest enemy is not heckling, but incontinence.
“There’s a significant proportion of the population for whom laughing out loud is just not an option, no matter how funny they find a routine – laughing out loud leads literally involves pissing themselves laughing.”
