Lawrence Mooney to lead Triple M Sydney breakfast comedy show in 2019

Triple M Sydney has announced a comedy breakfast line up led by Lawrence Mooney to replace the long standing Grill Team in 2019.

The Grill Team’s future looked uncertain after Matty Johns decided to quit breakfast radio in November after eight years in the slot.

Joining Mooney on the Moonman in the Morning show will be Gus Worland, comedian Chris “Pagey” Page and Jess Eva, a contestant in the 2018 series of Nine’s The Block.

Mooney hosted Triple M Brisbane’s breakfast show last year before being replaced by Nick Cody earlier this month.

Triple M’s head of content Mike Fitzpatrick said Moonman in the Morning will be unlike any other show on Sydney radio: “We can’t just re-do The Grill Team. It’s time to move on.

“This will be a real comedy and music show that gives Sydney a unique look at what’s happening in the city and plays the biggest rock hits.

“From Parramatta to Palm Beach, Cronulla to Castle Hill, this will be a show to make Sydney laugh.

“Lawrence is in career best form and has been honing his skills in Brisbane. Gus is a much-loved part of our family and Jess has been doing breakfast radio on the Sunshine Coast for six years now, she’s a star of the future.”

Mooney added: “I’m actually pretty honoured to be doing breakfast in the biggest market in the country. I’m following in the footsteps of some big names at Triple M and that absolutely thrills me.”

In the last radio ratings survey for 2018, Triple M attracted 6.2% of the Sydney breakfast audience, well behind FM rivals Kiis’ 10.5%, WSFM’s 9.0% and Nova’s 8.4%. 2GB’s Alan Jones dominates the timeslot in Sydney with a 16.5% listener share in the last survey.
