LazarBeam tops YouTube’s top 5 Australian creator list for 2021

YouTube has released several top lists for YouTube in 2021, including the top ten trending videos, top ten creators, top five Australian creators, and top ten breakout creators.

Over 90% of the watch time on content produced by YouTube channels in Australia comes from outside of Australia.

Chang continued: “Collectively, these top 10 videos were watched more than 455 million times, and the channels behind them total more than 268 million subscribers.”

The top Australian creator was gaming and commentary channel LazarBeam, whose channel currently sits at 19.4 million subscribers. LazarBeam’s ‘I Spent $8,000 Beating GTA’ ranked sixth in the top 10 trending video list.

In terms of Australian creators, superwog1’s ‘Season Two – Ep 1 The P Plates’ took second place in the top 10 trending videos, which is currently at 7,544,655 views. Superwog1’s channel was also named as the second top 5 Australian creators.

The video is a full episode from the second series of Superwog by Theodore and Nathan Saidden that aired on ABC iView on 13 June 2021, developed with Screen Australia and YouTube through the Skip Ahead initiative.

Fairbairn Films, listed as number four for the top five Australian creators, released a campaign for Playstation back in July this year.

Topping the top 10 trending videos is Mr Beast’s “I Spent 50 Hours Buried Alive” video, which is at 147,662,123 views at the time of writing and can be seen below. Mr Beast’s channel also topped the top 10 creator list.

In September, Thinkerbell founder Adam Ferrier described Mr Beast as “one of the biggest names in the world Mr Beast is still waiting to be discovered” in an opinion piece for Mumbrella.

Jellysmack, which launched recently, country manager ANZ Ezechial Ritchie speaking to Mumbrella last week about the task ahead of scaling up the creator economy in Australia.
