Leo Burnett promotes Chaka Sobhani to global CCO, retains previous duties

Chaka Sobhani has been promoted to global chief creative officer at Leo Burnett, after spending five years as CCO of Leo Burnett London.

Sobhani replaces Chicago-based Liz Taylor who was in the role for two years and is departing the agency. It is not know yet where she is headed.

Sobhani will retain her duties in the London office, while also taking on this new role.

Sobhani said: “I’m truly honoured to take on this mantle, working closely with all our global CCOs and ECDs to push for even greater creative excellence at Leo Burnett around the world and bringing in the next generation of talent from different backgrounds”.

As COO, Sobhani will represent the Leo Burnett brand, work and culture within the global industry, largely taking the lead on three areas: “Continuing to push the network’s creative standards, with Leo Burnett’s CCOs and ECDs around the world; Identifying, recruiting and growing the next generation of creative talent, from diverse backgrounds. Representing Leo Burnett on a global stage”.

Sobhani joined Leo Burnett London from Mother in 2016, previously working in the TV industry.

Andrew Swinand, CEO of Leo Burnett USA said: “I would like to thank Liz for her commitment, passion and energy in the past two years. We wish her all the best for the future”.

“I am very proud and excited that Chaka, will be taking on the role of global CCO for our network. Chaka puts the ‘human’ in humankind. You can feel it in every part of her work and her tireless dedication to championing and including diverse voices and people in our industry.”

Sobhani has served on the jury at Cannes, and will again in 2021. Her previous work includes brands such as McDonalds, Kellogg’s, Samsung, Boots, Coca-Cola and Adidas.

Locally, Leo Burnett Australia announced in March that Emma Montgomery would be returning to the agency in the role of CEO of Sydney.
