Leo Burnett wins eBay
Leo Burnett has won the advertising account for eBay in Australia, ousting Whybin TBWA. Host and BMF were also in the pitch.
Hamish Stone, ebay’s head of marketing, eBay Australia said: “Leo Burnett was the partner of choice as there is a healthy balance of creativity and thinking nestled within a solid agency that credibly maintains a boutique feel. The team at eBay are looking forward to working with Leo Burnett to move consumers’ perceptions of our brand and offer, through innovative and creative marketing that stands out in the cluttered retail marketing space.”
Todd Sampson, CEO of Leo Burnett, said: “eBay is a brilliant global brand with big ambitions. We are lucky to have them as a client and have lots of ideas on how to help them grow their business. It has been another year of record growth for us and we are very proud of this win.”
I wonder if Gruen had anything to do with it?
In other news, these Google banners and islands are f**ked. What foul means have created these un-ignorable monstrosities? If you stare at them and defocus your eyes they become 3D too.
I refuse to click on them though.

I’m bored of how we pitch. eBay should have put the account up for auction on eBay. At least then Leo’s wouldn’t have made that gay video. Actually, they probably still would have.

I’d like to know how many years of “record growth” leo’s can have and still be so “boutique”.
Either they are not “boutique” – or they are not “growing”.
Answers anyone?

Half Preg – I think Todd may be referring to his career outside of advertising.
