Louie the Fly campaign enters final phase
Euro RSCG and The Red Agency’s Louie the Fly campaign for Mortein is entering its final few weeks after a three-month tour of the country.
February 23 is decision day as to whether the Aussie brand mascot will be killed or not following a high-profile PR campaign that began in September last year.
Louie has amassed more than 213,000 Facebook fans over four months and Mortein says he needs 250,000 votes to keep him alive.
At the time of going to press, the vote total stood at just under 200,000.
I think the campaign is far more interesting if he dies. I don’t think they’ll allow that to happen, and no idea what it will mean for the brand or sales, but it just would be more interesting to see how that end plays out.

People honestly believe they had any intention whatsoever of ditching the fly?
P.T. Barnum was right.

I just had a look at the FB page, it seems that the votes for killing him do not count against the total of keeping him alive.
“250,000 Save votes will keep Louie alive”
So their is no running total for kill counts? It also looks as though you can vote as many times as you like… I’m betting he will just survive a day or two before, (coupled with an ad campaign saying “Louie is only XYZ votes away etc”) but maybe I am just a cynic.

Seriously, with enough money spent on media and promotions anybody can reach 250K fans…
DIE LOUIE DIE!!!

My money is this is a media beat up and they will keep it. If not we boycott Mortein…

this one seems to be playing out within the vacuum of the industry……i think they need to announce that they will sponsor Sandilands’ radio show UNLESS we all vote to save Louie. Why not jump on the beat up du jour to kick it along a bit.

MORTEIN is not very effective. It’s been around for 40 years but the Louie The Fly is still alive. The product works as well as Lara Bingle promoting Australia (or “Straya” as she puts it).

Honestly, does ‘Joe Public’ give a shit? And is all this faffing actually shifting more fly spray?
I’m guessing that’s a big fat no on both counts.

Louie the Fly hasn’t done anything wrong – it’s the agency that must die!
Appalling concept, excruciatingly bad copywriting and directing, and equally appalling client to approve such mis-handling of an Aussie icon.
The team behind this mess should be put in the stocks in Martin Place and pelted with garbage!

I vote to kill the campaign…please..won’t somebody think of the children!

if they keep Louie, then that means Mortein can’t kill flies.

Thank god this is nearly over.
The agencies behind this needs to be put down for blatant brand equity abuse.

poor bastards……the imminent crescendo of this laborious and overly-cooked marketing campaign is about to be squashed by the story on them killing a bunch of factory worker jobs.

Seems the title of this article was somewhat prophetic, even if by accident.
Yeah, this campaign is surely kicking some goals. Hats off.

To all australians boycott mortein – they are no longer an Australian coy, losing aussie jobs. By going off-shore the quality control is no longer there. Support aussie coys.
