LSKD releases body image documentary, ‘Unapologetically Me’

LSKD has a new documentary named ‘Unapologetically Me’, created to offer viewers an intimate, powerful look at body image through the eyes of six female athletes.

The announcement:

LSKD is proud to announce the release of its latest documentary, Unapologetically Me, which takes an intimate, powerful look at body image through the eyes of six incredible female athletes. The documentary delves deep into their personal journeys, exploring the challenges they faced and how they overcame obstacles related to body image, anxiety, disordered eating, and self-harm.

In a world that often imposes unrealistic beauty standards, Unapologetically Me empowers women to embrace their true selves – confident, strong, and unapologetically unique. This documentary is an authentic representation of the diverse experiences and stories of LSKD athletes, including Bronte Elsmore, Lilz Suesue, Skyler Peebles, Mikaela Di Blasio, Lexi Ellis, and Alex Hall.

“Powerful is adaptable. Powerful is recognising who you are honestly, truthfully. What you know you can bring to the table in any given situation. Even if that’s nothing, even if that’s everything, even if it’s a small piece. And knowing you deserve to be at the table.” – Lexi Ellis

“Don’t worry about what other people think. The only opinion that matters is yours. Just wear the crop top, just go to the gym, just show up, just wear the shorts, just do it. I think it’s a bold move, but it’s also a brave move. Be courageous. You do you, girl.” – Lilz Sue Sue

This documentary also addresses sensitive topics, including disordered eating, anxiety, and self-harm. Viewer and participant discretion is advised, as we acknowledge the discomfort these topics may cause for some. LSKD’s goal is to raise awareness of the importance of wellness and mental health, while creating a safe space for discussion and healing within the community.

As part of the Unapologetically Me campaign, the documentary underscores the brand’s mission to empower women to feel strong, confident, and unapologetic in their journey, no matter what that looks like for them.

LSKD’s visual production lead, Elliott Sauvage, shared:
“Whether it’s on the surface or buried deep, everyone has been on their own unique journey with body image. Sometimes it comes from external pressure, but sometimes it comes from within. This documentary is an opportunity to share the raw, personal stories of these athletes, who have bravely navigated the challenges and come out stronger. Our hope is that by sharing their experiences, we inspire others to embrace their own unapologetic journey.”

Elliott also reflected on the emotional journey behind this project:
“I think this entire project has been an incredible journey of listening. With our documentary last year, Don’t Wait, a lot of what went into that documentary was a part of myself and a part of all of the mental health struggles I had been going through at the time, so all of it came so naturally. It was an entirely different case with Unapologetically Me. While I definitely identified with a lot of the topics here – body image, mental health – I wanted to make sure we were telling this story right. So, a lot of what happened at the start was listening to those around me – seeking to understand from so many others. As I started to ask questions and have conversations about where this documentary was going to go, the responses were all so unique and each story was completely different in its own right. Bar one thing; the common theme in every response was the feeling of not being good enough. So, this documentary was created for those people – everyone who has at one point or another felt inadequate – this is for you. We hope you take as much out of it as these incredible six athletes put into it.”

Produced in-house by LSKD’s marketing team, Unapologetically Me continues the brand’s commitment to creating meaningful, impactful content, following the success of Don’t Wait, which addressed men’s mental health and provided a safe space for dialogue.

Unapologetically Me premiered online on December 11, 2024, at 10 am AEST and is now available for viewing on LSKD’s YouTube channel and LSKD.TV.

Ahead of the online release, we hosted a special premiere event on December 10th, where over 100 guests gathered to experience the film for the first time. The evening was made even more impactful with a workshop led by the amazing team from Tomorrow Woman, sparking valuable conversations on body image, self-empowerment, and embracing one’s unique journey. Brave women, including featured athletes Lilz Sue Sue and Bronte Elsmore, shared their stories, creating a space for connection and reflection.

Guests enjoyed good food, meaningful exchanges, and the chance to discuss the film’s important themes. The premiere event provided a powerful opportunity for our community to engage with the film and each other, igniting conversations that will continue long after the credits roll.
