Mao begins US dance, Kingdom grows
Mao’s Last Dancer opened at number 31 of the United States box office with U$199,657 on 33 reported screens (average $6,050).
According to a spokesperson, distributor Samuel Goldwyn Films will expand the film to 70+ prints this week.
Behind, at number 38, Animal Kingdom (Sony Classics) had a 63.7 percent growth, with U$101,440 from 22 screens – 15 more than the first weekend. The screen average was $4,611.
Producer Liz Watts told Encore last month that the plan was to expand to more than 120 screens across the US.
