Marc Fennell, Tony Armstrong, Myf Warhurst and more recognised at 2024 Australian Podcast Awards

Respected journalists and media personalities including Marc Fennell, Yumi Stynes, Tony Armstrong, Myf Warhurst, and Zan Rowe, were awarded at Thursday night’s 2024 Australian Podcast Awards.

Held at the Sofitel Sydney, Darling Harbour, Australia’s podcasting stars were commemorated across 31 award categories, underscoring the growth and influence of podcasting nationwide.

“This year’s winners are a testament to the diverse voices and creative approaches that are captivating listeners across Australia,” said Corey Layton, head of digital audio at ARN’s iHeartPodcast Network Australia.

“The awards reveal countless examples of both seasoned creators and new voices covering an array of topics that educate, entertain, and inspire. On behalf of everyone at iHeart, congratulations to this year’s nominees and to the entire industry for another incredible year of podcasts.”

Adam Shepherd, editorial lead of the Australian Podcast Awards, added: “2024 has been another banner year for the Australian podcast sector, with more creativity, excellence, and innovation than ever before.

“This is reflected in the calibre of entries we received, and picking this year’s winners was as challenging a task as ever.”

Yumi Stynes’ ‘Ladies We Need To Talk’ on ABC took home Podcast of the Year and the Sex and Relationships category, while iHeart’s ‘The Pool Room with Tony Armstrong” won Best Entertainment and Best Sport. Award-winning journalist Marc Fennell was also honoured in multiple categories, taking home Best History and the Spotlight categories for his series ‘House of Skulls’, via Audible.

Recognised for championing diverse perspectives, Nova Podcasts’ ‘First Things First’ – hosted by Brooke Blurton and Matty Mills – was awarded Podcast Champion for its influential focus on Indigenous and LGBTQIA+ topics.

Music journalists Myf Warhurts and Zan Rowe took home Best Host for their ABC/Double J series, ‘Bang On’.
